T540. Iron tsuba with gold inlay. 7.5 x 8.1 x .4 cm. The nakago hitsu-ana is .8 x 2.7 cm. The serious Higo collector from whom I received this tsuba in trade thinks it is kodai (later generation) Jingo, most likely the work of the 5th master Shigenaga but possibly by the 4th master. A crescent moon is reflected in rice paddies with golden stalks. This hearkens back to one of the most famous of all Higo tsuba, by the 2nd Kanshiro Nishigaki (see my last picture, from Mr. Ito’s book). Condition is perfect. $1,195.
