T303. An unusual tsuba worked in brass. 6.3 x 7 x .4 cm. The nakago hitsu-ana is .7 x 2.4 cm. Unusual for a variety of reasons. 1st, brass isn’t that commonly used in tsuba and when it is I expect to see bright brass, not the patinated plate we have here. The irregular shape (cloud) is not often seen also. I think this is late Edo work but it has been mounted to a sword in the past. The carved dragon is very well done, moving in and out of the cloud and with copper whatever those things are flowing from its side. I think this to be a fine piece. $300.
