T196. Ko Kinko tsuba. 5.8 x 6.7 x .45 (on the fukurin) cm. The nakago hitsu-ana is .7 x 2.9 cm. This tsuba dates to the Momoyama or just at the beginning of Edo, possibly early work from Mino or Ko Kinko works fine also, yamagane or bronze, made in 3 layers (san mai awase) held together by rivets and the fukurin. I think the animal on the waves is a fox but it may be something else. Wonderful carving (the fox is quite playful) and great condition. Also interesting for the punch marks on the seppa-dai, each of which is a different character and must have some meaning. This one is special. $425.
