T107. Iron sukashi, thin plate with fine tekkotsu on the rim. 7.7 x 8 cm. Late Edo, I believe. I’ve been trying to discover the theme of the sukashi; it’s hard. One collector told me that this isn’t the obvious, rather some sort of vegetable. There may be some vegetable that looks like this but the tsuba shi had to have known what everyone would think. I’ve been told that this tsuba appeared in Robert Haynes catalog #4, item 1,011. Condition is very good. Comes with a box. $350.
