M257. Papered Kotsuka by Nomura Masahide, Caldwell Collection

M257.  Kotsuka signed Nomura Masahide.  9.7 x 1.3 cm.  Copper nanako plate (front and sides) with a shakudo back.  Grain stalks and seeds (rice?) are worked in shakudo with gold.  Condition is excellent.  Masahide was adopted into the Nomura family and became the 5th master.  He lived in Edo, mid to late Edo period.  This kotsuka comes in a box with pillow and with a Tokubetsu Kicho paper from the NBTHK, dated 1971.  The paper was given to R.B. Caldwell, a fittings collector about whose collection books have been written.  $1,595.
