B595. Nihonto no Gimei by Inutsuka & Fukunaga. 1981. Clothbound with dust jacket, 7 1/2 x 10 1/2″, 186 pages in Japanese. Gimei means false signature. Swords have been given bogus signatures for centuries, sometimes in homage to a great smith but usually just to make a quick buck off the unsuspecting. There were even organized schools of forgery. Which is where this book comes in, by showing you what to watch for when shown an importan mei.
