T350. Jakushi Tsuba with NBTHK Paper

$450.00

T350.  Iron tsuba with gold inlay, signed Jakushi.  6.8 x 7.3 x .4 cm.  The nakago hitsu-ana is .8 x 2.7 cm.  A finely carved dragon inhabits this tsuba, surrounded by rough seas and a background worked in nunome zogan.  Nunome zogan is common for Jakushi tsuba but this example was worked with especially fine crosshatching before the gold leaf was hammer in.  The rim of the tsuba also is worked in nunome.  The dragon’s eyes were set with gold dots for pupils; one of the pupils is missing.  One hitsu-ana is plugged with copper that has been silver plated.  Condition is excellent; this is a very fine piece.  This tsuba was given a paper by the NBTHK in 1972.  $450.
