T261.  Copper kotsuka with Tsuno Daishi.  1.5 x 9.7 cm.  This nearly identical design was done by the master Yasuchika; I’ve included 2 pictures of his kotsuka from the book Yasuchika.  The subject is Tsuno Daishi (google him to see who he was).  At the bottom of the front, crossing a carved crack, is what a furniture maker in the west would call a butterfly: a double sided wedge meant to hold the 2 sides together.  Ornamental only here, but a very nice touch.  Tsuno Daishi is worked in a raised cartouche in gold and shakudo.  Signed in small charcters on the back; Muramitsu I believe.  There is a 4 mm separation at an edge at the mouth of the kotsuka; otherwise condition is excellent.  This will come with a bamboo kogatana, which was with it when I got it.$200.
