Q857. San Mai Awase Tsuba
$175.00
Q857. Kinko tsuba. 7.4 x 7.5 x .4 cm. The nakago hitsu-ana is .9 x 2.8 cm. San mai awase tsuba consist of 2 thin plates, carved and repousse shakudo usually, sandwiching a thicker copper plate, all held together by a shakudo fukurin. The scenes on the 2 plates are always the same front and back. On this tsuba a man, a samurai I presume, rides a horse across a bridge at the top while another samurai wrestles with a dragon in the water below. There must be a story here. A bit of lost detail on the plates due to use; otherwise condition is great. There is a bit of gold inlay. $175.
