Daruma is the Japanese name of Bodhidharma, a semi legendary Buddhist monk who is known for prolonged meditation and is thought to bring good luck. On this tsuba he appears to be sitting in a cave, the impression of which is enhanced by the incised rim within the rim. Daruma’s face, his earring, and nearby plants are inlaid in silver; his eyes and dew drops are gold ten zogan. There is one tiny spot at 7:00 on the front that might be a mushroom in shakudo. There are subtle tekkotsu on the dote mimi. Condition is excellent. $325.
