Q824. Daisho tsuba: Namban. The dai is 7.4 x 7.9 x .5 cm. The sho is 6.9 x 7.3 x .5 cm. Don’t think I’ve ever had a daisho in Namban before but, no question, these 2 are by the same hand and likely made as a daisho. It is easy to spot the dragon in each tsuba but, if you look closely, you’ll find a second dragon in each. The dragon’s eyes are gold and there is gold nunome zogan around both rims. Note the dragon’s whiskers, carved on two planes and different from each other, as would be expected from Namban. Other than for a bit of lost gold on the rims conditions are excellent.
