Q765. Iron Tsuba with Unusual Sukashi

$295.00

Q765. Iron tsuba. 7.9 x 8.2 x .6 cm at the slightly raised rim. The nakago hitsu-ana is 1 x 2.7 cm. Normally, when a tsuba has both kebori (line carving) and sukashi (open work), the kebori is worked around the sukashi. On this tsuba the smith appears to have started with kebori: a pine tree on one side and plants & flowers on the other, and then cut the sukashi across the kebori. We have cloud forms at the top, a bird descending at the side, and rocks that serve also as udenuki ana at the bottom. There are prominent tekkotsu on the rim and the whole has a yakite (partially melted) surface which is quite nice. Excellent condition. Was $345, now $295.
