Q193. Ezo Futokoromono with Elephant Menuki

Q193.  Fuchi kashira and menuki I believe are Ezo School.  The inside dimensions fo the fuchi are 1.8 x 3.4 x .8cm tall.  The menuki are 2.7 and 3.2 cm long.  These elephant menuki are shown on Richard Turner’s pages; he calls them Ezo work and I have no reason to disagree.  The fuchi/kashira seem to fit that call also.  Much of the gold on the menuki is lost to time, rubbed off high spots.  As Mr. Turner says in his listing for the set, Ezo gold was thinly applied and loss is expected.  You don’t often see Ezo kodogu offered; there isn’t a lot of it and most of what there is seems to be stuck in collections.  This set comes in a fitted box and condition is excellent.  Was $1,175, now $975.
