M198.  Iron sukashi tsuba with soft metal inlay.  7.2 x 7.6 x .27 cm.  The sukashi is a gumbai: a Samurai leader’s signaling war fan.  Fine lines of copper in swirls and arcs are found on both sides, and in a few places I see what looks like flowers, but probably is something else, worked in silver, I think.  The deep patina on the tsuba makes it difficult to see the soft metal.  Nice, dense, thin plate in great condition.  $225.
