K161.  Copper tsuba signed Masachika.  4.6 x 5.5 x .45 cm at the raised rim (.2 cm on the plate).  The nakago hitsu-ana is 1.2 x 2.3 cm.  This tsuba was made to fit a standard tanto and sometime later was modified to fit a yoroi doshi (armor piercing) tanto: the nakago ana was widened and a shakudo pillow was added to the kotsuka ana.  Bonji are crisply carved on the plate which is worked in gentle tsuchi-me.  Note: this tsuba is a browner copper color than the one in my pictures.  I try to take representative pix but I’m not always successful.  Excellent condition.  $275.
