K123. Wonderful Namban Tsuba, Likely Japanese

$475.00

K123.  Namban iron sukashi tsuba.  7.9 x 8.5 x .45 cm.  The nakago hitsu-ana is.8 x 2.7 cm.  It isn’t known where most Namban tsuba were made but it is thought that some were made in Japan by Japanese craftsmen in a style that was, at the time, popular.  I bet this is one of those.  The work is very refined and the iron has a much finer patina than is often found on these.  Also, unlike with many Namban where the kotsuka and kogai hitsu have been cut out of the design, this tsuba has always had the hitsu.  This one is special.  Excellent condition (it may be lacquered).  $475.
