H371.  Iron plate tsuba signed Umetada.  7.6 x 8.3 x .6 cm at the raised rim.  The nakago hitsu-ana is.8 x 2.7 cm.  This comes out of the Skip Holbrook collection; Skip’s tag says, “Umetada, Gold plum blossom for Ume, Kiri & turtle shell”.  Instead of a Kanji for the 1st part of the signature, the smith has inlaid a gold plum (ume in Japanese); nice touch.  The carving is accentuated with a few gold ten-zogan; all but 1 remain.  Another nice tsuba.  $650.
