Iron tsuba with brass and silver inlay. 7.6 x 8.3 x .45 cm. The nakago hitsu-ana is .8 x 2.7 cm. A consigned tsuba and here is what the owner thinks.

A large massive tsuba signed Noriyoshi 則能 – Edo period. Heianjo zogan on iron ground, which has been given texture using tsuchime (槌目). Seeing there are also very thin silver fragrance lines inlaid along with some ten-zogan (dot inlay), this work can be probably be dated to the Mid Edo at the earliest. Design of butterflies (蝶 cho) on plum (梅 ume) blossoms. Slightly oblong with no ana.

Excellent condition and in a box with pillow. $435.
