Yamazaki ha 山崎伝 Menuki (NBTHK Hozon) – mid Edo (1750-1800)
The Yamazaki school worked in the western kinko capital of Kyoto, Yamashiro province. The founder Yamazaki Ichiga learned from Goto Jujo and most of the school’s work was considered on par or even better than their contemporary Goto sidelines. The theme is Manzai performers (萬歳図) who were usually invited into the house for their artistic blessing-performance.The base metal is shakudō, with thick and thin inlays of gold and silver and iroe. These came off a tanto mounting and as such, their backsides are still filled. Custom fitted box with pillow.
