C320. Signed Iron Sukashi Tsuba with Amida Yasuri

$525.00

C320. Iron tsuba. 7.7 x 7.9 x .4 cm at the raised rim. The nakago hitsu-ana is .8 x 2.8 cm. This tsuba is consigned to my site; here is what the owner has to tell you about it.

tsuba signed Toda Hikozaemon (戸田彦左衛門) – late 17th century –  with the unique calligraphy that belongs to this artist. His work is highly thought of and he was one of the “Three Owari Masters of Genroku” (Fukui Jizaemon and “Sakura” Yamakichibei being the other 2). Typical features are a very fine amida-yasuri, an uchikaeshi mimi which forms a very narrow up-standing border (sukinokoshi) and ko-sukashi motifs, mostly placed low on the right side of the front. This tsuba displays all of those hallmark features. You can feel the sophisticated style of the Genroku era in the simple Owari temperament.

Excellent condition and in a box with pillow and 3 labels. $525.
