C291. Early Onin Tsuba
$1,200.00
C291. Iron tsuba with extensive brass inlay. 7.6 x 7.6 x .3 cm. The nakago hitsu-ana is .9 x 3.1 cm. Robert Haynes has seen this tsuba; he thinks it is Onin and from the 1400s or earlier. The brass was cast prior to its being inserted on the plate; in spots you can see where the inlay is made of 2 pieces put together. A little bit of the inlay is missing but not much considering the age. There was a time in Japan when brass, which had to be imported from China, was more valuable than gold. $1200.
