T376.  Daisho sukashi tsuba by Hayashi of Higo.  The dai is 7.4 x 8 x .45 cm; nakago hitsu-ana is.8 x 2.7 cm.  The sho is 6.7 x 7 x .4 cm; nakago hitsu-ana is.8 x 2.5 cm.  The theme is clam shells, one used by and attributed to Hayashi the 3rd according to Ito Mitsuru in his book Works of Hayashi and Kamiyoshi (see my last picture).  Of course, this set could be by a later smith, I don’t know, but it definitely is Hayashi.  Conditions are excellent, about perfect.  This comes in a daisho box with pillows (the pillows are mismatched a bit, if that matters) and a label on the side.  I can make out Hayashi but nothing else on the label.  The tsuba have sat in the box long enough to leave shadows on the cloth.  13 ounces.  $1,100.
