B978. Kanzan Oshigata

B978.  Kanzan Oshigata by Kanzan Sato.  1969.  4 scrolls, wrapped in silk in a wooden box (16 x 17 x 4.5″) with cardboard storage box.  Each scroll is about 72.5 feet (22 m) of full length, actual size oshigata of great swords.  The opening end of each scroll is faced in silk and the scrolls are mounted to wooden rods.  317 oshigata including 64 Kokuho (National Treasure) including the O-Kanehira, 105 Juyo Bunkazai (Important Cultural Property), 44 Juyo Bijutsuhin (Important Art Object), 13 Gyobutsu (Imperial Collection), 57 with Meibutsu Designation (Named Masterpieces), and the Tenka Go Ken (5 Great Swords) Mikazuki, Juzumara, Dojigiri, Onimaru, and Odenta.  Also included is a smaller, string bound book with a listing and commentary on the included swords, in Japanese.

All of the scrolls have been unrolled and examined; the only shortcoming is that a decorative end cap is missing from one of the scroll rods (see my last picture)..  There is a crack in the wooden box top (which actually is smaller than the one in my picture, which is from a set I sold earlier).  Because of the way the box was constructed and due to natural wood shrinkage, it is very likely that all sets of this book have the same problem with the box top.  The cardboard storage box has been bumped and dinged but continues to protect the set just fine.  And that’s all; there are no other defects to warn you of.  The set is in wonderful condition.

This is a great book, amazing reference. It is with a trusted consignor in the US and he will ship to you.  20 pounds.  $1,800
