B1010. Nippon-To: The Japanese Sword by Hakusui, Dr. Compton’s Copy
$140.00
B1010. Nippon-To: The Japanese Sword by Inami Hakusui. 1948. Hardbound, 7 ¼ x 10 ½”, 222 pages in English. This was the 1st book on Nihonto in English published after WWII. You get history, nomenclature, temper lines, mountings, sword shapes, a list of important smiths, and a bunch more.
This is a rebound copy of the book in my pictures. Copies in the original binding, which wasn’t the best, are often falling apart. This is a plain, dark blue cloth binding with title and author at the top of the spine and at the bottom, Dr. Walter C. Compton. Dr. Compton was the best known collector of Nihonto in the west. He famously returned to Japan the National Treasure tachi by Bizen Saburo Kunimune. Condition is excellent. 1 pound, 8 ounces. $140.
