Mosle (1862 – 1949) was a German businessman who spent the years between 1884 and 1907 in Japan, where he developed a strong interest in and an important collection of Japanese art. The Mosle collection consisted of swords and sword furniture, armor, textiles, paintings, ceramics, and more. Mr. Mosle acquired the friendship and assistance of some of the top authorities of the day; his collection of kodogu was especially impressive due in part to the help of Akiyama Kyusaku and other scholars of the art.
