Q645. Papered Yagyu Tsuba
$2,895.00
Q645. Iron sukashi tsuba. 6.7 x 6.8 x .55 cm. The nakago hitsu-ana is .9 x 2.8 cm.This tsuba comes with a Hozon paper from the NBTHK in Tokyo, dated 2019 and giving it to Kodai (later generation) Yagyu. Yagyu Munetoshi and his son Yagyu Munenori were fencing teachers for the Tokugawa Shogunate and were the founders of the Yagyu Shinkake Ryu 柳生新陰流. They designed tsuba that they thought conveyed the teachings of the school and commissioned tsuba smiths to make the tsuba. This is a classic Yagyu design: battle baton and conch shell. Condition is excellent; there is the typical for the school grainy iron and very fine laminations are visible on the rim. The tsuba will come in a box with pillow. $2,895.
