J118.  Tsuba.  7 x 7.4 x .5 cm.  The nakago hitsu-ana is.9 x 2.9 cm.  This piece is unusual in that the karakusa design continues into and over the seppa-dai.  Its owner thinks maybe that this is a Japanese made tsuba in the style of Namban.  It is nice that the kogai and kotsuka hitsu-ana were included in the original design; they haven’t been cut out of the design.  The carving is splendid, crossing over and under, and the gold on the mimi is a quality touch.  $345.
